Peru Travel
One of the world’s most spectacularly beautiful, and culturally significant destinations, Peru possesses magnificent Andean peaks, Lake Titicaca, (the highest navigable body of water in the world), and the steaming elegance the Amazon River basin, the white waters of the Sacred Valley, and the spectacular wildlife of the Paracas National Reserve, one of Latin Americas most sophisticated and vibrant cities, and a mind boggling profusion of ancient remnants, including the most iconic of all Incan ruins, the lost city of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu
High above the spectacular Sacred Valley at 8040ft, Machu Picchu is flanked by steep cliffs and lush green mountains that protected the citadel until it was discovered by archaeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911. With dreamlike vistas of the snowcapped Andes on the horizon MachuPicchu is generally accepted as the most important and captivating archaeological remnant of the Incan Empire, Machu Picchu was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983 and voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. But awards aside, this extraordinary place, like the Taj Mahal, or the great Pyramids, simply cannot be adequately described in words or even pictures.
